Using Lokate for Trailing and Tracking Problems
Recording and Reviewing Tracks
To address trailing or tracking problems, a hider walks a designated course while recording their path using Lokate or any other GPS-enabled application. This recorded track is then utilized by the handler during the exercise or for post-exercise review to assess the team's performance.
Uploading GPX Tracks in Lokate 3.2
With Lokate 3.2, you can upload any GPX recorded track as a "map item" and assign it as a hider track. In the Settings for Guidance Track, you can customize the track's color and decide whether it should be visible while recording the K9 running the problem.
Track Guidance Module
The Track Guidance module in Lokate calculates scent pools created by the hider. It uses dwell time and pool size settings to determine these pools.
Dwell time: The minimum time the hider stays in an area.
Pool size: The maximum area where the lingering occurred to qualify as a scent pool.
Generating Trailing Reports
After recording the assignment, Lokate automatically generates a track/trailing report. This report shows the accuracy of the problem run by measuring minimum and average deviations. Typically, this is calculated against the handler's GPS recording unless the K9 was equipped with a GPS recording device.
